Kathmandu- The Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) has requested to give more cash subsidy to the exporters affiliated with the Make in Nepal Swadeshi campaign.

The Confederation has asked the government to give an additional 1 per cent cash subsidy to members associated with the Make in Nepal Swadeshi when exporting using the collective logo of the Swadeshi, citing that the recent high contraction in the economy has discouraged industrialists.

This request was made in the suggestion submitted by the members involved in the Swadeshi Campaign in the Swadeshi Meet and Greet programme held in the capital on Monday in the presence of the Secretaries of the Office of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies and the Secretaries of the National Planning Commission.

President of CNI Vishnu Kumar Agrawal said that the consumption of domestic products should be increased to build a self-sufficient economy.

He said that in the current challenging situation, the CNI is working on behalf of the private sector to create a positive and encouraging environment for industrialists.

An important example of that is the Make in Nepal Swadeshi campaign, he said.

The Confederation has already started the necessary initiatives for the collective trade mark of Swadeshi.

On the occasion, Secretary of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies Dr. Toya Narayan Gyawali said that the Make in Nepal Swadeshi campaign is important for export promotion and import substitution by increasing the use of domestic products.

He said that for the promotion of domestic industries, illegal transactions should be stopped, customs rates of raw materials and finished goods should be further differentiated and said that he would assist in the implementation.

He asked for suggestions on the issues to be addressed through the upcoming budget for the promotion of domestic industries.

Arjun Pokharel, Secretary of the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, said that coordination with the private sector would be crucial for economic prosperity.

Secretary at the National Planning Commission Kewal Bhandari pointed out the need to work to increase the contribution of the industrial sector to the GDP, citing that the contribution of the industrial sector in the total domestic product (GDP) has decreased to 5 per cent. TRN
